Strong Collaboration and Increased Attraction: Tanya Schulte Shares Insights on Campus Flemingsberg’s Open House 2024 (7)

Earlier this year, Campus Flemingsberg hosted its annual Open House, a day aimed at attracting more applicants to Sweden’s largest multi-university campus and spreading awareness of the wide range of programs offered in the area. Tanya Schulte, a communicator at Södertörn University, reflects on the successful day.

On March 21 this year, banners, balloons, flags, and arrows on the ground led the way to Campus Flemingsberg. Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University of Music Education, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Södertörn University, and the Red Cross University College of Nursing collaborated to promote Campus Flemingsberg and showcase the unique array of programs offered on campus.

– We marketed ourselves effectively and worked together. There is significant value in having a joint open house because it allows visitors to explore multiple institutions if they are unsure about what they want to study. It opens up new opportunities and thoughts regarding future academic choices, explains Tanya.

How did the collaboration between the institutions work?

– The collaboration between all institutions has worked really well, it’s a strength to be several, as we also have different target groups that we specialize in. I believe that people who hadn’t decided what they wanted to study really see the value in having so many different institutions gathered in one place.

What were your hopes for the day?

– We wanted to recruit students and put Södertörn University on the map, showcase the breadth of programs, spread information and inspiration. We also wanted people to feel what it’s like and experience student life for a day. That’s why we had 20 student ambassadors on-site, who helped with the guided tours, which were very popular.

What events did you arrange in connection with the open house?

– In addition to the guided tours, we had a general seminar about what it’s like to study at Södertörn University. Then the programs had their own seminars, short 20-minute seminars with drop-ins. It was highly appreciated.

What are your highlights from the day?

– There were many fun things that happened that day, but I really noticed that many visitors came together with friends, where one might be interested in KTH and another in Södertörn University. For Campus Flemingsberg, it’s valuable that more people can come here together and that there’s a joint open house at a multi-university campus where you can go from institution to institution with many different disciplines.

– Something extra exciting this year is that our number of first-choice applicants for the autumn term 2024 increased by 15.4% compared to last year, according to UHR. Nationally, the number of applications increased by 8%, so we are very proud and happy about that, concludes Tanya.

Bioinformatics and biostatistics support for researchers

The Center for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (CBB) provides support and knowledge on bioinformatics and biostatistics research methods. The goal is to improve opportunities for researchers at Campus Flemingsberg to use new research methods and provide training in existing methods.

HappyPaws medical journal concept wins Flemingsberg Science Award

The idea behind HappyPaws is an open platform that provides pet owners power over their pets’ medical records. It would give pet owners a better overview of their animals’ medical histories, from previous visits to the vet to the vaccination status, and allow information to be shared with other users.
