Novak Djokovic is the latest player to join an illustrious list of career golden slam winners.

Novak Djokovic has officially won everything a tennis player could achieve, doing so in style against his nemesis—Carlos Alcaraz. The Olympic gold medal was the only award missing from his otherwise illustrious cabinet and he was determined to secure it for Serbia and his fans at Paris Olympics 2024.

In his pursuit of this final accolade, Djokovic shattered several records. He became the oldest athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in tennis at and is the only athlete to have won the gold without dropping a single set.

The celebrations and outburst of emotions post-victory indicated the significance of this moment for the Serbian. A wait of 16 years came to a close, placing him among a unique list of the greats and legends of the game.

Winning the Olympic gold medal alongside all four Grand Slams—Wimbledon, the French Open, the US Open, and the Australian Open, constitutes a Golden Slam. Djokovic completed the Golden Slam at the age of 37. Here is a look at the full list of players who have achieved this remarkable feat.

5. Steffi Graf

Steffi Graf was the first player to win all four Grand Slam titles as well as an Olympic gold in the same year, back in 1988. The German won 22 Grand Slam titles in a 16-year professional career, the second-most behind Serena Williams (23) since the start of the Open Era in 1968. Graf was ranked world No. #1 for 377 weeks and won a total of 107 career titles.

She was just 19 years old when she achieved the incredible feat of winning a Career Golden Slam. She is so far the only tennis player to win all four grand slams and the Olympic gold medal in the same season. The calendar golden slam feat was achieved by Graff in 1988.

It is as daunting as it sounds and requires great effort and adaptability from a tennis player to triumph across hard courts, grass courts and clay courts. Arguably, the pinnacle of the German’s Golden Slam triumph came in the Wimbledon final, where she triumphed over the legendary Martina Navratilova.

4. Andre Agassi

Andre Agassi became the first man to complete a career Golden Slam, in 1999, when he won his first and last French Open title. The American was an eight-time major champion, an Olympic gold medalist, and a runner-up in seven other majors. Agassi won gold in singles at Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

Agassi witnessed a decline in 1997 due to injuries and a drug controversy. His career appeared to be all but over, but he stormed back into action and accomplished a feat very few have managed to do – achieveing the Career Golden Slam.

One of the American’s most notable victories was against Andriy Medvedev in the final, when he staged an incredible comeback to defeat him 1-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 and thereby win his first French Open crown and complete the Career Grand Slam.

3. Rafael Nadal

The 22-time Grand Slam Winner was the first of the “Big Three” to have completed the Golden Slam. The 38-year-old won his Olympic gold in 2008 against Chile’s Fernando González. Rafael Nadal declared 2024 Games as his final Olympic appearance and ended his games career with two medals: one gold in singles at Beijing 2008 and doubles In Rio 2016.

The Spaniard accomplished the feat at the age of 24 years and thereby became the youngest male player in the Open Era to achieve this feat. He has won the French Open a staggering 14 number of times and is hence aptly called “King of Clay”.

Serena Williams is one of America’s greatest athletes. She is also the only player to accomplish a Career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. Arguably one of the greatest tennis players ever, Williams has won a total of 23 Grand Slams including 7 Wimbledon and 7 Australian Open titles.

The American completed her career Golden Slam in singles at the age of 30. She had already won all four majors by the time she was 21, capturing her first US Open in 1999, her first Roland Garros and Wimbledon titles in 2002 and her first Australian Open in 2003, but she didn’t finish her collection until the London Olympics in 2012.

One of the hallmarks of the Serbian’s career that makes him stand out is his incredible longevity.

Having won more Grand Slams than any other male player in the history of the sport, just one exclusive award was yet to be a part of his glorious cabinet – the Olympic Gold. And he did that against Carlos Alcaraz, the same player who beat him few weeks earlier at the Wimbledon final.
